Requirements & Compatibility
What you need before installing Protuno, WordPress version, Elementor, PHP, and browser requirements, plus compatibility notes for other plugins.
Protuno requires WordPress with Elementor installed and active. That is the only hard dependency. Everything else in the list below is compatibility context to help you avoid surprises before you install.

Protuno Free vs Protuno Pro
Protuno ships in two versions: a free plugin and a Pro plugin. Both can be active at the same time, the Pro plugin extends the free one.
When Protuno Pro is installed and active, the free plugin detects it and hands off control. This means you install both, but Pro takes over for all features. If you deactivate Pro, the free plugin resumes with its own feature set.

Theme Compatibility
Protuno works with any WordPress theme. The Proton widget outputs scoped HTML/CSS that is independent of your active theme's styles. There are no known theme conflicts.
Theme Builder Compatibility
If you use another theme builder, Elementor Pro's Theme Builder, Nexter, or another plugin, Protuno will detect it and show a conflict notice in the Theme Builder screen:
"Another theme builder is active. Protuno won't disable it, avoid activating a Protuno header/footer at the same time to prevent a duplicate."
You can use Protuno's Theme Builder alongside another, but do not activate a header or footer template in both at the same time or it will appear twice on the front end.
Compatible Plugins
Protuno's dynamic data system supports these plugins out of the box:

These integrations are optional. None of them are required to use Protuno.
MCP Client Compatibility
The MCP integration (for connecting Claude, Cursor, or other AI clients) requires:
- Protuno Pro
- WordPress 7.0 or higher (for the Abilities API)
- A compatible AI client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible tool)
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Protuno without Elementor? Not yet. Protuno currently adds one widget to Elementor. Gutenberg and Bricks support are on the roadmap.
Does Protuno conflict with other Elementor widget plugins? No. Protuno registers its own widget and does not modify Elementor's core or other widgets. It runs alongside any other Elementor plugin.
Can I install Protuno on a multisite network? Yes. Protuno can be network-activated or activated per-site on a WordPress multisite installation.
What happens if my host's PHP version is below the minimum? WordPress itself will typically warn you if your PHP version is too old. Protuno follows WordPress's PHP requirements. Contact your host to upgrade PHP if needed.
